Let Justice Roll Down
Published in Paperback by Regal Books (June, 1976)
Author: John M. Perkins
Average review score:

One of the bbest books read in high-school
I read this as a sophomore in high school. Definitely a must for any teen christian looking to learn more about life as a christian

Authentic religion, practical healing of communities.
This is the true and moving story of John Perkins, a black from Mississippi who experienced oppression by whites, including the murder of his brother. He overcame bitterness through the good news of Jesus Christ. Beaten almost to death for his efforts to empower the black community in the 60's, Perkins fought back with love and power from God, building a successful ministry of community spiritual and economic development that brought blacks and whites together. Perkins must be a man who truly believes that God became a man and dwelt among us. For that model of sacrificial love and service has been the benchmark and inspiration for his life and ministry. A refreshing break from the usual religious hype, this book will show skeptics an authentic, practical, and compelling Christianity they may have never seen before. And it will challenge Christian readers to apply, in utterly down-to-earth ways, the implications of their faith. No literary masterpiece, it simply tells what happened. Perkins is clearly not interested in self-promotion; he doesn't shirk from sharing his own blemishes and failures. This simplicity and humility of narrative serve to underscore the reality of God's presence in the events recounted, with the result that the reader is emboldened to take a bigger view of what God can do in his or her own life to bring about healing and reconciliation in his or her community. Of interest to anyone with such aspirations, this book should never be allowed to go out of print

More Than Equals: Racial Healing for the Sake of the Gospel
Published in Paperback by Intervarsity Press (June, 1993)
Authors: Spencer Perkins and Chris Rice
Average review score:

Reconciliation ahead
A friend of mine and I read this book. We both have had experiences of being in all-Black and all-White congregations and the authors are right on target. This is definitely a must read for all that are concerned about reconciling the races for the greater cause of Christ. 5 stars!

The Christian solution to America's race problems
A wonderful book! Rice and Perkins hold nothing back as they show that the race problems in America cannot be worked out simply by passing laws. The only way true healing can take place between hostile races is through Christ's unconditional love for all of us. They strongly encourage churches to open their doors and arms to people of different races and cultures and to work out their differences through God's Grace rather than simply passing legislation. This book offers strong, proven examples of black and white Christians learning to live and worship together in Jackson, MS. Highly recommended!

A wonderful resource book for children.
I am a clown and I train young people age 10 to 15 to be clowns. I use this book as a text book for my clown training course. It gives many wonderful ideas and has simple to follow directions. This books covers the history of clowning, costumes, makeup, juggling, mime, props, and types of clowns. It is a wonderful first book for children who want to become clowns.

Excellent reference
As a clown I have recommended this book many times to children that show an interest in becoming a clown. The illustrations are very clear, the ideas are doable and gives a real feel for being a clown. A good beginning book for clowns of all ages.

The New Oxford Annotated Apocrypha: New Revised Standard Version
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (February, 2001)
Authors: Michael D. Coogan, Marc Z. Brettler, Carol A. Newsom, and Pheme Perkins
Average review score:

the best book on this
THe apochrypha is the great missing text of the Hebrew and Christian Bibles. AN important document that is part of our history and culture and yet is often not read and is overlooked. How can scripture do without the liked of Judah Maccabbee? read this translation it is wonderful.

A Complete Canon of Scripture
For those of us who are absolutely appalled at the way the canon of Christian Scripture has been ripped up by the Protestant churches (in particular) over the last 500 years, we now have this handy volume containing all the books of the Old Testament that have fallen into dispute since the Protestant Reformation.

Although most of these books are found in Roman Catholic Bibles, there are a few - notably 1 and 2 Esdras and Psalm 151 - that are contained only within Eastern Orthodox Bibles. Although many would say "well, we aren't missing much by not having these works," I heartily disagree. 2 Esdras, in particular, is a very moving work written somewhere around 100 c.e. that contains a dialogue between Ezra (or, more likely, someone writing in Ezra's name) and the angel Uriel. The book deals with theodicy in a truly human way - the frailty and the hope both shine through. The books of the Maccabees also contain things not found in Protestant Bibles, notably the encouragement that praying for the dead is a righteous deed and the story of Hannukah (which was, by the way, celebrated by Jesus in the Gospel of John).

There is an introduction to each book, as well as notes at the bottom of each page to help the reader understand the original context, as well as cross reference the ideas found within a specific text with those ideas found in other Biblical texts.

This book is an invaluable edition to every person's library - whether professional or layman.

The Pioneer Twins
Published in Hardcover by Amereon Ltd (June, 1989)
Author: Lucy Fitch Perkins
Average review score:

I Remember It Well
This is an excellent book. I read it in 1949 in the fifth grade. In fact the twin series turned me on to reading. I remember them well. I tried to find them when my children were little, but there were no twin series books on the market then. I never gave up looking for them and was surprised to find recent publications.

This is a terrific book if you like American History.
This book centers around a two twins, a boy and girl, who decide to go look for their father in California, the one problem is this requires becoming pioneers and crossing the Great Plains. They overcome many hardships with the help of their friends. This book forever imprinted on my mind the trials of the early pioneers

Psychonavigation: Techniques for Travel Beyond Time
Published in Paperback by Inner Traditions Intl Ltd (April, 2000)
Author: John Perkins
Average review score:

I Flew!
When I read this book, I could not put it down. I flew! I read "Shapeshifting" by Perkins also and loved it. I came to "Psychonavigation" expecting to hear more of the same. But was I in for a pleasant surprise! This is a terrific book -- and it complements Shapeshifting. Perkins is a powerful teacher. He has helped me transform my life and learned to fly! What more can I say? Except: Read it!

Good Storytelling and Useful Techniques
I really enjoyed this book, having read Perkin's other books, Shapeshifting and World As You Dream It. The thing that I especially liked about this one was that he included a shamanic journeying technique at the end of his book. Therefore, not only do you get the great storytelling and inspiration found in the other two books, but you also get a useful tool which you can easily incorporate into your life. Another bonus of this book is that it is not exclusively centered upon the Shuar of South America. Perkins also recounts his journeys and experiences in the Andes and Indonesia. This is the book where you learn in-depth about Perkin's experiences that led him to further develop his interactions with the Shuar -- experiences briefly mentioned in the two books above. Even if you are the kind of person who tends to shy away from personal stories in spirituality books, I still recommend this book. I'm one too, and yet I find Perkin's works valuable.

Sickness Unto Death
Published in Hardcover by Mercer University Press (September, 2002)
Author: Robert L. Perkins
Average review score:

Brilliant, simply brilliant...
This is an absolutely stunning analysis on the roots of despair and the dichotomous struggle of the mind against itself. It is a provocative study well worth reading with friends and discussing, as the rather dense prose can make it easier to miss certain points he makes. Anyone who has suffered a long term depression or knows someone who has should especially read this.

Great!
Kierkegaard has in this book gone under the surface of despair. The analysis of despair of the self when it not want to be it self is great. It helped me to understand why my self isn't in harmony. And how my self may consolidate.

Streams in the Desert
Published in Paperback by Sant Bani Ashram Inc (April, 1982)
Authors: Ajaib Singh, Russell Perkins, and Judith Perkins
Average review score:

Priceless talks on the practice of spirituality
This is the first collection of talks by Sant Ajaib Singh Ji that was published by Sant Bani Ashram. Later ones include _The Palace of Love_ (on the Vars of Guru Nanak, 1st Guru of the Sikhs), _The Jewel of happiness_ (on the "Sukhmani" of Guru Arjan, the 5th Guru), _The Two Ways_ (on the "Gauri vars" of Guru Ramdas, the 4th Guru). The great Saint and poet was a man of practice. He used to pick some verse from the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh Scripture, and rather than just comment it, He would explain it and make it fresh and actual, with lots of examples and stories, so that this treasure of spirituality may be put into practice by truth seekers everywhere and anywhere. This is priceless devotional poetry.

Something special about this man!
A simple man attains greatness.

To read about the truth is one thing, but to see with your own Eye is another.

Recommended reading for transitions in one's life.
Useful as it explains many aspects of making successful transitions. Essentially with a theme of thriving it has interesting case studies. It list the difference between the 'old zero' and the 'new zero'. It also shows the characteristics of a coper and profiles the traits of a thriver. The book is a 'workplan' for those who wish to become thrivers. Not only does the book address the issue of careers but many other personal challenges one faces in life. I would recommend this book to mentors, coaches and cousellors.

This is a wonderful book! I read it at a time of tremendous upheaval in my life and found it to be quite insightful. It offers a positive perspective for those who find themselves in the midst of tumultuous, unsettling personal situations. I recommend it highly!

Traditional Photographic Effects with Adobe Photoshop
Published in Paperback by Amherst Media (01 September, 2003)
Authors: Michelle Perkins and Paul Grant
Average review score:

Made me feel like a pro
I like this book very much because it starts with the basics of Adobe Photoshop, and it also starts with learning different effects and techniques you can start to use right away. This is a fun way to learn - you really feel like you are accomplishing something. Perkins and Grant use layman language without making the reader feel like a dummy; illustrations and examples of what is being talked about are plentiful.

I turned to this book many times when I needed to learn a Photoshop technique in a hurry, although I have several Adobe Photoshop books on hand. I knew with Tradional Photographic Effects With Adobe Photoshop I could do what I needed to with little confusion and searching.

Along with clear and concise instructions for working on your photographs, a section covers input and output techniques.

This is a great book for Photoshop beginners and a nice book for Photoshop pros to have on hand to a technique up in a hurry.

A guide to using the "digital darkroom." This one's a must.
This book pulls out all the stops, presenting helpful, practical information vital to creating perfect prints. It is well illustrated with color images and screenshots, making any digital-photographic endeavor--from sandwiching to vignetting to creating "infrared" images--a quick and painless process. I especially appreciated the reader-friendly organization of the book. I could flip to any page to find a great technique, mastering the steps at my own pace without wading through a maze of unimportant, high-brow digital jargon. This book is inspiring!
